January 6[edit]

I think[edit]

I think the article Wikimedia Foundation needs to be updated at the expense and the revenue of the organization. I concluded them above. 2001:EE0:4BCA:3F20:BC4C:1488:250F:E6D9 (talk) 11:45, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please direct concerns about that article to its talk page, Talk:Wikimedia Foundation. 331dot (talk) 12:07, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Warnings[edit]

Please check my talk page. A user claims that I made "Personal attacks" and gave a warning for it. Imperial[AFCND] 12:28, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

what's your question? ltbdl (talk) 13:00, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please check the deletion discussion on Battle of Thane and the talk section. Do any of my comments there reflects personal attacks? Sorry for doing this here but I think this isn't much to take to ANI. Imperial[AFCND] 13:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Dropping a {{uw-vand2}} on User talk:Jonharojjashi for mixing up two historical figures who shared a name wasn't really the best way to engage. The comment about the mixup could have stood on its own, without the warning template, and it's not terribly surprising they've responded in kind.
If you're concerned about the reputational damage of unreverted warning templates on your usertalk, just stay focused on the content of the Battle of Thane article and its deletion discussion. Editors are never under any obligation to convince one another of anything or satisfy each other's demands. Folly Mox (talk) 13:44, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can a person legally hold two wikipedia accounts in his name?[edit]

Is it wise and legitimate to hold two wikipedia accounts with similar usernames for a same person? Yashrajkarthike (talk) 13:45, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Yashrajkarthike: There could be reasons, for example, it might be that they forgot the password for the previous account. In any case, they have to tell on their user page that they have another account. Please read WP:MULTIACCOUNT. Deltaspace42 (talkcontribs) 13:48, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Real pictures of mutilated bodies from crime scenes? Needs removed.[edit]

I was shocked to see a mutilated corpse from actual crime scene photo on the "jack the ripper" page. I tried to remove this photo but was unable to do so. I was also unable to find any other way to change/delete.

Out of respect for the victims and there families, I think showing mutilated corpses is horrible. How would you like it if your relative had been murdered and her mutilated corpse photos were online? Disgusting. I also fear those individuals with psychotic personality disorders could derive inspiration/motivation from these types of photos.

Can someone please help me to remove the mutilated corpse photos? Thanks

(The corpse photos are bad enough, but the mutilated corpse goes too far, in my opinion.) XB9000 (talk) 16:31, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry that this bothers you, but Wikipedia is not censored. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 16:38, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've left information on your talk page on how you can suppress images that you may find offensive. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 16:45, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
XB9000, please be aware that Jack the Ripper is a Featured article and also a Vital article. It has gone through extensive peer review by highly experienced editors, and has been displayed on Wikipedia's main page. The consensus of the editors with a long term interest in this topic is that the photos of victims belong in the article. Images that are shocking to some people are commonplace on Wikipedia in articles about shocking topics, and that is simply not going to change. Cullen328 (talk) 21:20, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"Excessive citations" After reference 54 the editors say there are too many references (5 altogether). Can these all be put into one long (truncated) citation so that all 5 of them are only seen when the reader clicks on it - I have seen this done before. Also, can this truncating also been done with the 5 citations occurring before citation number 69? (the editor again says "excessive citations".)

Thanks 2001:4479:6201:ED00:441F:501E:8854:E2F5 (talk) 22:46, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's possible to have 5 citations inside one set of <ref>...</ref> tags, but those 5 citations still may be excessive. I suggest talking with the editor who added the "excessive citations" tag first. GoingBatty (talk) 22:01, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Moving a File:[edit]

I can't find anywhere to either move or propose a move for File:Omeg phi chi.png. It is the Coat of Arms for Omega Phi Chi and I think the file name should match that (Omega rather than Omeg).Naraht (talk) 00:32, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@naraht: the process for requesting a file rename is here. ltbdl (talk) 10:16, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
ltbdl That's fine. *Definitely* a different process than renaming an article or template.Naraht (talk) 14:33, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Possible Plagiarism[edit]

I think that the header and overview section of Portuguese man o' war is plagiarism. The plagiarized source is this, which links to this. There are a few examples of very similar sentences in both, like

wiki: "The Portuguese man o' war is a conspicuous member of the neuston, the community of organisms that live at the ocean surface."

source: "The Portuguese man of war, Physalia physalis, is one of the most conspicuous, but poorly understood members of the pleuston, a community of organisms that occupy a habitat at the sea-air interface."

I tried to make a post in the talk page, but it was immediately removed, and after trying to post again it was immediately removed without any discussion. Then, after talking with the person who removed my talk topic on my own user talk page, they mentioned that the source has a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. I also saw that on CopyPatrol, the user had added the parts of the article that were plagiarized, then changed the wording to be different. The current page still shows a 98% similarity on Earwig's Copyvio Detector.

Is this fine? Am I right that the article needs to be changed more, or is the current state of the article fine? Also a link to a specific rule about plagiarism in this case would be helpful, because I found it hard to get a direct word on the situation. WP:Copy-paste and WP:PLAG say slightly different things, but at least WP:Copy-paste states that "In case of uncertainty, please ask at Wikipedia talk:Copyright problems or Wikipedia:Help desk for input from other editors."

Thanks, Yubbo (talk) 01:07, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

add content to management consulting firms[edit]

Hello, I would like to add content to a semi-protected page: List of management consulting firms. The content is a link to CPO PLAYBOOK Consultancy Cpoplaybook (talk) 05:25, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Cpoplaybook: That is unlikely to happen; an internal link is added only when a subject has an article on Wikipedia. Your account seems to be solely for the purpose of promoting this organisation, which is not allowed by policy. Please disclose any relationship you may have with this group. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:36, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • @Cpoplaybook: Our "list" articles are miss-named. That article is really a list of Wikipedia articles about management consulting firms. Until your firm has a Wikipedia article, it cannot be added to that list. The subject of a Wikipedia article must be notable by our definition, so it is unlikely that your firm can be the subject of a Wikipedia article. See WP:NCORP. -Arch dude (talk) 06:30, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

WP:FINDLINK[edit]

Are there any alternatives to Wikipedia:FINDLINK right now? Im not sure why but these days, it doesn't seem to work properly for me. A lot of time it can locate a link but when I click it to apply changes, it says the term is not in article and I have to manually change it which wastes a lot of time. - Imcdc Contact 09:03, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Imcdc, I didn't completely understand what didn't work for you, but I just tried it and it worked fine. If you continue to have problems with it, I suggest you post a report to User:Edward's talk page. Mathglot (talk) 05:15, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Import image to Commons[edit]

I want to import this image to Wiki Commons but it says "Can't import file because at least one of its revisions is missing an image file." Could someone restore the missing file please --FMSky (talk) 09:45, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@FMSky: It appears to be completely missing. It wasn't deleted in the normal way so there is nothing to restore. I have marked it as hidden but I'm not sure of the effect on import. Try again. If it fails then I can delete it instead which sounds odd for a non-existing file but it has worked for me before. That time it was a version by the same user. This time it's a different user so I'm first trying a method which keeps their username. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:45, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Biography of Nicolas Iljine[edit]

In: https://infogalactic.com/info/Nicolas_Iljine there is outdated and incomplete information about me. None of the source links function. How can I edit the text about myself and make the necessary additions?

Nicolas Iljine, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (redacted) Paris1964 (talk) 10:50, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Paris1964 You'll have to take up issues with that website on that website, but if you are interested in changing content on the Wikipedia article about you, please make a formal edit request(click for instructions) on Talk:Nicolas Iljine. I've removed your personal contact information, it is unwise to post it in this very public forum. Wikipedia matters are typically handled on Wikipedia, for openness and transparency. 331dot (talk) 10:55, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If I were Iljine, I'd be unhappy about the picture showing him standing close to Putin. I expect it can be removed if requested. Maproom (talk) 11:33, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Paris1964: Wikipedia is not affiliated with Infogalactic. They use the same software as us but an old version of it. They have copied many of our articles which is allowed by our license but we have no control over their pages. https://infogalactic.com/info/Nicolas_Iljine is a copy of a 2015 version [2] of the Wikipedia article Nicolas Iljine. Both the 2015 and current version display references here at Wikipedia. Many Infogalactic features are only available to registered users but as far as I can tell, if you got Infogalactic to import the current Wikipedia article then the references would display while four of Nicolas Iljine#External links would fail. https://infogalactic.com/info/Special:Log/import shows they still import Wikipedia articles. I don't know their processes but you may have to request an account at https://infogalactic.com/info/Special:RequestAccount before you can contact them. Default Output of Inflation Template[edit]

The Inflation Template returns an error if the date is out of range.

Can this be avoided, such that it returns the input value as if inflation was 0 (or another reasonable value)?

I'll move this to Template talk:Inflation if it belongs there.

Garvey 96 (talk) 13:33, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Garvey 96: Hi there! When having an issue with a template, I suggest posting on the template's talk page first, preferably with an example. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 21:58, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Returning an error seems like the right approach. Returning a value makes it seem like the input, and therefore the output, is valid when it is not. Mathglot (talk) 04:59, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Picture for an article[edit]

I was thinking about adding an image of this text (which is 300 year old german) to the article Effects of pornography on young people in the section 1715 - 1940: Protection from God's wrath and protection of youth, with this text: "concerns about the effects of pornography on adolescents can be drawn back to the 17th century" but I'm not sure if this image is really a good picture for this section, should i add the picture?

I am aware of MOS:IRELEV, but I'm unsure, the picture can theoretically enhance the understanding like the first picture in Constitution of the United States, but most people in enWp cant understand German, which makes it decoration. Should I mark the important part (which is marked in the link) when I want to insert the picture so that the reader understands what I mean or not?

(The sentence in English reads something like: such representations have incited many innocent youths of both sexes sex to evil and seduced almost everyone and therefore God Almighty, when We as the ruling reigning sovereign and sovereign prince out of Christian zeal would not did not endeavor to put a stop to it, he could easily be justly angered, and impose severe punishments.") The Other Karma (talk) 14:24, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Other Karma, this is a matter of editorial judgment, but my opinion is that this snippet of 300 year old text in German adds nothing of value to the reader. On the other hand, an image of the first page of the US Constitution, with its well-known, oversized "We the People" flourish, brings benefit to our readers. Cullen328 (talk) 22:12, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for your reply, I will not add this picture. The Other Karma (talk) 19:53, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Contents of deleted redirect[edit]

Is there a way I can find out what a deleted redirect pointed towards? I once made a redirect of the name of a person involved in an event (the page I redirected it towards was not itself the event but it had a subsection discussing it), and I was shown that the redirect had previously existed before as a redirect to a now nonexistent page (hence why it was deleted), but it didn't say what the page was. I thought this was strange as the section about this event had existed on this page for 10+ years and hadn't been deleted or, as far as I'm aware, previously turned into another page. I tried to find a deletion discussion related at all to this topic and found none.

Sorry if I explained this poorly, thank you! PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:04, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@PARAKANYAA: There is no general way except for administrators like me who can view deleted pages. Please be specific when you ask for help. What is the title? PrimeHunter (talk) 17:15, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@PrimeHunter The redirect was Alexander Kuzminykh, which the new version of now redirects to the 1998 incident section of the article Russian submarine Vepr. PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:17, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@PARAKANYAA: It redirected to a deleted article Aleksandr Kuzminykh. Sometimes you can find hints by looking at other edits and log actions at the time by the deleting administrator. They deleted the article four hours earlier but made so many deletions between that it would have been hard to find.[3] Anyway, the subject was an unrelated footballer born in 1989. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:38, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@PrimeHunter Ahhhh, okay, thank you! I wanted to split the incident section off after a future expansion since it independently seems to pass GNG and NEVENT (and there are a lot of similar "submarine incident" type articles) but was wondering if there was a previous deletion discussion related to it. Guess not. Well that solves that problem (now only to add more information/sources on the submarine itself so it's not left a stub...) PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:43, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Generating list of film articles without infobox images[edit]

Hi, I do a lot of editing of articles about films. I'd like to locate film articles which are lacking an image in their infobox. Can anyone suggest a tool/method that I could use to auto-build a list of such articles? Thanks in advance. Tobyhoward (talk) 03:35, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Tobyhoward: Hi there! Category:Film articles needing an image should keep you busy for a while. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@GoingBatty:Thank you for the very fast and helpful reply! May I ask a subsidiary question? Is there a way I can intersect Category:Film articles needing an image with Category:British drama films? Thanks! Tobyhoward (talk) 03:53, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Tobyhoward, I imagine that you'll already be aware of the relevant issues; but briefly: if you can present explicit evidence that an image is now in the public domain, upload it to Commons and be careful to apply the appropriate public domain template to it; if it's not in the public domain and you can claim "fair use", upload it (at low resolution) to Wikipedia noting the specific use of it that would be fair. (In theory there's a third possibility: copyright images published under a usable copyleft licence. But in practice such images are, I suspect, vanishingly rare.) -- Hoary (talk) 06:37, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Hoary Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm aware of image upload protocols. My issue was how to locate film articles that needed an identifying image adding, as I wanted to create a list of them to gradually chip away at. In case it's of help to anyone reading this, Category: British cinema articles needing an image gives me just what I need. Cheers! Tobyhoward (talk) 07:37, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Tobyhoward, for future reference you can find category intersections with the incategory keyword, documented here. For example, this search returns British cinema articles rated as quality C-Class that also need an image. Folly Mox (talk) 14:23, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

WikiProject Awards vs. Awards by WikiProject[edit]

I stumbled across the Category:WikiProject Awards participants page and noticed that basically everything on the page mistakenly links to Wikipedia:Awards by WikiProject. As far as I can tell, mass retitling of the two topics occurred years ago to eliminate confusion caused by them sounding so similar, and I assume this page was unfortunately just forgotten in that process.

I tried to figure out how to fix it myself, but I am fairly new to editing and don't have much knowledge of userboxes or templates. I would appreciate any advice/help with fixing the issue. Thanks! RilVi (talk) 06:52, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Display of photo of another person with similar name[edit]

in the article, Palakollu Assembly constituency, in the table for 1985 assembly elections, the name of the Communist Party Marxist candidate is Alluri Satyanarayanaraju . This is correct. But, the photo depicted and personal details given when clicked on the name are wrong. The photo and details belong to another leader with the same name. The latter worked as PWD minister in the Congress Governments of united Andhra Pradesh ( though a previous communist ) and also AICC general Secretary. But, this CPI (M) candidate of 1985 Palakollu Assembly constituency was life-time communist leader. 103.28.244.252 (talk) 09:05, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Why are the cites in Ekşi Sözlük not automatically archived?[edit]

Help:Archiving a source says ‘ New URLs added to Wikipedia articles (but not other pages) are usually automatically archived by a bot.’ Perhaps the article was written before that bot started running?

Obviously I cannot see the primary source cites from here in Turkey without messing around with a VPN. Is there something I can do to get the cites archived regularly please? Chidgk1 (talk) 11:43, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey there @Chidgk1, I've gone ahead and archived all the sources on Ekşi Sözlük. If you ever need to do it in the future, you can use the IABot interface. It's great for archiving and tagging dead links. – DreamRimmer (talk) 11:53, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah thanks very much for quick response Chidgk1 (talk) 11:55, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Chidgk1, perhaps the language of Help:Archiving a source should be clarified. As you can see from the archive dates of the sources at Ekşi Sözlük after DreamRimmer's IABot run, these sources have already been archived between 2012 and early last year. The presence of an archive snapshot at Internet Archive doesn't mean that it will necessarily be linked from any particular Wikipedia article, which requires editorial action. Just FYI. Connect new pages to Wikidata[edit]

Young Hearts (The Curse) is a new page that isn't connected to Wikidata. At Wikipedia:Wikidata#New articles it says how to connect it, but I don't see that flow on my screen. I'm using Vector 2022. Is there any script that can help me without me needing to go to Wikidata and manually create these pages? Gonnym (talk) 14:11, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The option to view a page's Wikidata item, or to add it to Wikidata, appears on my "Tools" sidebar. While I have these on my right sidebar, I believe they are tucked away by default on the top of the page, by the "Add topic" and "History" buttons. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 14:20, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
At Young Hearts (The Curse) do you have the option to add it to Wikidata? Gonnym (talk) 14:22, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, it shows as "Add interlanguage links" for me. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 14:23, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And how do I connect Wikidata from that option? Gonnym (talk) 14:24, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Clicking the link will lead you to this page, which will ask you to create a new item. Before you do so, you may search to see if the page exists on a different Wikipedia project under a different title, though it's unlikely. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 14:31, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have "Add interlanguage links" but I dont have from there a link to the page you linked to. Gonnym (talk) 14:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Wikidata item is missing so you cannot easily make it via Wkkidata. Go to wikidata:Special:NewItem to create it. It doesn’t help that the mobile interface of both Wikipedia and Wikidata are so incompatible. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 14:38, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Problems related to moved articles regarding university football[edit]

So I posted about this in WP:FOOTY to try to figure out what happened with some of the following articles:

Originally all of the content was located at College soccer, but then the material was suddenly split between College association football and College soccer in the United States. Nevermind the fact that the moves were undiscussed, the histories for the pages College soccer and College soccer in the United States are now all messed up and everything redirects to College soccer in the United States, including the content not related to the U.S. The edit history for College soccer has been inexplicably moved to College soccer in the United States, but the talk page for College soccer remains the same as it was before. Is there someone who can look at these page moves and figure out what happened? Thank you! Jay eyem (talk) 16:23, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Contractor Garage - A new category of commercial real estate[edit]

Potential Authors, In 2010 I created and coined a new concept of commercial real estate called a Contractor Garage. Since then I have developed 8 properties in the Kansas City metro, trademarked it, and starting to share the branding with others across the United States. The term is starting to be widely used throughout the United State (and other parts of the world) thanks largely to social media. The concept is very similar to what CrossFit has done to the gym industry. We're a brand that has become synonymous with a new category of commercial real estate. "Contractor Garage is a branded category of commercial real estate that bridges mini storage with flex industrial space." The problem is since I am the creator of the concept and own the brand and trademark, I can not create a new topic to address this new subject. I instead need to be interviewed so someone else independent who can do it. I feel like this concepts needs to be added to Wikipedia because as time goes on social media influences are blurring the concept incorrectly with existing flex industrial real estate. I would like to set the record straight on what exactly it is, coming from the main person who created and coined the concept over 14 years ago. I would love to hear from someone willing to take on this project. - Kevin Combs Kcombs79 (talk) 17:56, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wikipedia articles summarize what independent reliable sources say about a topic, not what it or those associated with it, say about it, so an interview with you would be insufficient to sustain an article. Wikipedia is not a means for people to share what they created one day. When independent sources choose on their own to write about it, then there can be an article about it. 331dot (talk) 18:08, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This is what I'm trying to spearhead. As of now, Google is the only way to search the term. Wikipedia has nothing. So by all means if any "independent sources" would like to choose on their own to write about it... here is an untouched topic. -Cheers Kcombs79 (talk) 18:23, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think you misunderstand; the independent sources need to write about this topic in their own publications first, not here. Then independent editors will take note of that coverage and choose to write about it. Wikipedia is the last place a topic is written about, not the first. 331dot (talk) 18:32, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Independent sources are writing about it daily via social media (X, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok) for example. No scientist or doctor has written any papers about it and it's not often a topic of media concern, but people have been talking about it for 14 years so Wikipedia will definitely not be the first. Wikipedia is already the last. That's why I'm here. Surly someone can spearhead the topic. Thank you for your help! Kcombs79 (talk) 18:39, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Social media is not considered a reliable source(please read). It doesn't have to be written about in scholarly or academic publications, just independent reliable sources like the news or published books. You'll have to conduct publicity efforts elsewhere. 331dot (talk) 18:46, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It has been on the news (once that i know of in Topeka, KS) and other little business publications, chamber of commerce events, etc. Kcombs79 (talk) 18:56, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Kcombs79, posts by random people on social media platforms like X, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and the like are not reliable sources for creating an article on Wikipedia. They lack editorial control, fact checking and a reputation for accuracy. No one can "spearhead" this effort unless the topic has received significant coverage in reliable published sources that are entirely independent of you and your business ventures. High quality sources are mandatory. Cullen328 (talk) 19:12, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Here is a new story from a Topeka news station.
https://www.ksnt.com/news/local-news/contractors-garage-offering-hobbyists-and-small-business-owners-a-place-to-grow/
With some google research, there is a lot of information about this concept. It's all haphazard, which is why it's important for Wikipedia to address the topic/concept. Kcombs79 (talk) 20:04, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not always helpful internationally: "This content is not available in your country/region." Martin of Sheffield (talk) 20:07, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have been told that there are people developing this concept internationally. Admittedly I don't know their names, but yes, it is internationally significant. Kcombs79 (talk) 20:45, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Like Martin, I can't see that story. But from the title it sounds as if it's about a particular business, not about the concept. ColinFine (talk) 21:00, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I can read it and it is about a specific business. It's a pretty minimal article too. The entire thing is 6 brief sentences, including a quote from one of the owners. Squeakachu (talk) 21:24, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It started out as a business in 2010 but has since taken off like wildfire as a concept. A good example of CrossFit, which started out as a business but has become synonymous with a new type of workout. Wikipedia has CrossFit in their system. There is nothing about a Contractor Garage. Contractor Garages are less sexy than a popular retail business such as CrossFit, so it will garner less media attention as a result. Maybe one day it will become big but in the meantime at topic should be addressed on Wikipedia for the public's knowledge. Kcombs79 (talk) 21:30, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That KSNT story is obviously based on a press release or public relations campaign carried out by Neal Spencer, one of the partners in the business. It is not an independent source and therefore of no value in establishing the notability of this business. As for It's all haphazard, which is why it's important for Wikipedia to address the topic/concept, that is not how Wikipedia works. It may be important to you, but it is not important to Wikipedia, unless you can establish that this business venture meets the stringent standards at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). I see no evidence at this time that this business venture is notable. Cullen328 (talk) 21:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

As for CrossFit, that article has 138 references to reliable sources, many of them very high quality. This Contractor Garage business has none. These topics are not comparable. Cullen328 (talk) 21:47, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Robert J Tierney[edit]

I just edited the details for Robert J Tierney and found them to be incorrect. I am Robert J Tierney and returned to a version that was correct. Please replace the copy with what I just reinstated. 2604:3D08:5382:6900:50E7:75B0:B59E:1DE8 (talk) 19:12, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your additions to Robert J. Tierney were entirely unreferenced and therefore violated the core content policy of Verifiability. They were reverted for that reason. Since you have an obvious conflict of interest, you should not be editing that article directly. Propose any changes using formal edit requests at Talk: Robert J. Tierney, providing links to reliable sources verifying the new content. Cullen328 (talk) 19:22, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Merging my user talk archives[edit]

Where to go to request merging my user talk archives? 98𝚃𝙸𝙶𝙴𝚁𝙸𝚄𝚂 20:02, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@98Tigerius: It's done manually with cut and paste, and an edit summary saying where you copied from per Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia#Hyperlink. You only have three archives and can do it yourself but I suggest you first change archive parameters. The bot did as instructed by maxarchivesize = 4T which means 4 threads per archive. It's more normal to specify a size like maxarchivesize = 150K for 150 kilobytes. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:55, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Thanks a lot for the help. 98𝚃𝙸𝙶𝙴𝚁𝙸𝚄𝚂 08:20, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you[edit]

For recent edit on Dr. Macchiarini! There are too many self interested comments attacking him.

Wikipedia should be neutral. In time his name may be cleared. Meantime Attackers shall keep their agendas. I am sad May lives died.

@Carolinedonkin: You can start a discussion on the article's talk page. I think you may be referring to Paolo Macchiarini but I am not sure. RudolfRed (talk) 01:00, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Public figure Wikipedia[edit]

Hi,

what are the steps for a person to have a Wikipedia page?, and does it need to be the person applying for it, or management team can request on their behalf?

Kindest Regards Peculiar Flavours Mgmt 2A04:4A43:4F2F:E2F1:55C9:E19B:BA89:DE5C (talk) 02:25, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

They need to pass the general guidelines for encyclopedic notability. See WP:GNG and WP:ANYBIO. There are other relevant guidelines. Please also be aware that promotional editing and editing on subjects where you may have a conflict of interest is not allowed. See also WP:PAID. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:29, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
P.S. If you think you have a subject that meets our guidelines you can suggest the page be created at WP:RA. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:31, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also, if the person is truly notable someone who doesn't have a conflict of interest will likely create the article on them someday. ‍ Relativity 02:47, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
