– Line 3 of the Cairo Metro extends from Kit-Kat to Rod El-Farag Corridor.[1]
– Circular light rail of the Kaohsiung Metro extends from Heart of Love River to Kaisyuan Park, completing the line.[2]- – Taiwan Railway Corporation takes over operations of Taiwan Railway from the Taiwan Railways Administration.[3]
– BNSF Railway takes over operations of Montana Rail Link.[4]

- January 27 – Phoenix Valley Metro Rail Northwest Extension Phase II is planned to open.[6]
