- ISRO successfully launched its inaugural X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite XPoSat to study black holes and galaxies. The XPoSat aims to explore the polarization of intense X-ray sources in space.[1]

- 3 January: A court in India sentences two men to death over a train bombing in 2005 which killed 14 people.[2]
- 6 January: Aditya-L1 spacecraft, India's first solar mission, has successfully entered its final orbit around the first Sun-Earth Lagrangian point (L1), approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.[3]
